The gridlock of Washington has led presidents to do some wild public relations stunts, but President Obama is the first sitting president to take to late-night TV appearing on many of the major talk shows. Yesterday Funny or Die released Zack Galifianakis’s interview with the president on the “Between Two Ferns” comedy show. Obama signed on to discuss the Affordable Care Act, but pundits have taken to call the moment a “comedy hangover” (Galifianakis’s most famous role is in the Hangover movies series).
So has President Obama revolutionized PR? Will successive presidents make similar appeals through popular media? Is Obama the “first cringe-humor president“?
