Scholars on Trump

The historian David McCullough and the filmmaker Ken Burns have rounded up a group of distinguished American historians to speak about the candidacy of Donald J. Trump.

They all tell of the same astonishment, and of the historical flashpoints that Trump harkens back to (Vicki Ruiz: Jim Crow, Asian exclusion/internment, Mexican deportation). Ron Chernow points out what words Trump leaves out of his barnstorming rhetoric (liberty, justice, tolerance) and the human graces of subtlety and the awareness of irony.

Many more speak out including Robert Caro, William Leuchtenburg, Kai Bird, Michael Kazin, Joseph Ellis, and David Nasaw.
